Hello friends, family, and those who were guilted into reading this by my mother. I hope this post finds you all well!
Monday morning marks the beginning of a new adventure for me as I fly alone to France to begin my 3 month stay. There were many things I wanted to accomplish in this year in between medical school and undergrad and traveling was at the top of my list. Additionally, moving to France for a while and improving my French has been a long-time bucket list item for me (hence the title).
As for this blog: there are so many people I want to keep up with but with the time difference (6 hours ahead from the east coast) and all of our busy schedules that seems near impossible. Unfortunately, none of you keep blogs so this is a rather one-sided conversation but send me e-mails about your life and keep me updated about American happenings! This blog is just for fun (unlike my India blog which was required)-- but I'd like to apologize ahead of time for poor grammar and punctuation use.
I leave for Bretagne (AKA Brittany) January 5th and haven't purchased a return ticket yet...but I plan to do so...at some point... to return in early April. While in France I'll be eating, drinking, traveling by train, learning french, making new friends...and looking after three precious children!
People keep asking if I can speak French...in short: not really. (I blame my parent's half-hearted attempt when I was younger.) I took it for the entirety of high school but gave it up in college in exchange for chemistry. blah. This language struggle will certainly add to the adventure!
I have learned the most important phrases:
"Je voudrais deux croissants et un café noir s'il vous plaît"...I'll have 2 croissants and a black coffee please
"Aidez-moi, mon sac est trop lourd"...Help me, my bag is too heavy
"J'ai perdu les enfants"...I have lost the children (Just kidding)
I have no idea what to expect from this trip- I have only spoken to the family I am staying with for a collective 40 minutes- so I'm not sure how to preface this blog....this will have to do! Thanks for reading :]
Tune in Tuesday night for an update- A beintot!
